1st person vs 3rd person
1st person is to used when you want the reader to be the person the story, to feel, to think the character is saying. It can be also to limited the knowledge of the full story, to create surprises , unexpected events and make you feel surprise as if you were the character. This also can be achieved with 3rd person, however , when you try to achieve this with 1st person, it will be more effective. However, writing from 1st person can create a lot of awkward phrases, that does not make logic, as you are looking from a person point of, and only that. If you write things from top view, or other point of view, it ten to defy logic.
3rd person is good as you can change the the point of view you like, and you can choose what part of the story you want to show the reader. You can show the thinking of different character, and effectively compare them other, and you can develop all the characters very well. too, you can avoid a lot of logic mistake that can be made while using 1st person.
It is not easy to let the reader feel surprised at the 'unexpected' events as being the 3rd person, you will generally know what is going to happen and somehow feel that the character is stupid for falling into such a trick or what so ever. 1st person can also be used when the author want the reader to feel close to the character narrating. However, 1st person is only limited to only 1 person's point of view. 3rd person allows the reader to see the whole story in many different types of point of view. The author only do this when the author want the reader to reflect and think for him or herself whether this or that is correct or not.
